Textile 101 - Pure Cotton & Modal 🛌

Welcome to the Textile 101 class 👨‍🎓

In this class, we are going to talk about various "TEXTILES" which are used to fabricate or materialize for making Bedding products. We use different textiles to wear, cover, and wipe daily. Without textiles, our quality of life will be affected, and it will become a huge issue.

Interested in learning about fabrics? Then you came to the right place! Step by step, we will enter the profound world of fabric.

Textile is also called Fabric and can be classified as Woven, which is made by crossing threads in a straight line. In addition, Knit is made by twisting threads in one direction. Textile materials are created by using natural materials such as wood or plants, or chemicals. For example, Cotton, Nylon, Rayon, Polyester (Microfiber), and Modal.

QUESTION: How are Cotton and Modal be explained in today's class?

COTTON

The most famous textile in the WORLD

COTTON is one of the most common types of fabrics in our life. Cotton is made from the natural fiber of the Cotton plant. Also, cotton is not difficult to grow, simple to process, and has the advantage of not tearing up or breaking up easily. The industrial revolution, which began in England in the mid-18th century, enabled the mass processing of cotton. Later, clothes and bedding made of cotton began to spread around the world. For example, the Gold Rush in California was also popular with jeans made of thick cotton.

QUESTION: Why did Cotton become the most frequently used fabric?

1. Easy to care for and comfortable year-round.
2. Absorbs moisture & releases it on the surface of the fabric, so it evaporates.
3. Easy to clean; it can be laundered or dry-cleaned.

MODAL

Want to feel silky smooth? GET Modal!

Modal is an unfamiliar fabric compared to Cotton. If curious, search for Modal on Amazon! As an introduction, Modal is a semi-synthetic fiber that has found fame in the age of activewear. It is made from spinning reconstituted beech tree cellulose. The word "Modal" written on the blanket product is really rare and is usually used as a hidden keyword, so not a lot of customers know what it specifically means. However, modal is a fabric that is more commonly encountered than expected. If you open the closet at home, you can see many products made of Modal material. Underwear with famous brand logos, silky soft pajamas, even sheets and towels on beds are made by mixing Modals with other Fabrics.

QUESTION: What is the advantage of using Modal for bedding products?

1. Able to be machine washed & tumble dried.
2. Dimensionally stable & don't shrink or get pulled out of shape.
3. Wear-resistant & strong.
